Châtel is in the heart of the massive Portes du Soleil ski area, one of the largest in Europe. Falling between France and Switzerland, this area covers 14 resorts – 8 French and 6 Swiss – and a staggering 400miles of piste, served by 208 ski lifts.

It's all here – from gentle winding greens to challenging black mogul-runs, huge powder-fields, natural gun-barrels and purpose-built snow parks ideal for perfecting jumps and tricks. Beginners are well catered for by large dedicated areas laid out specifically for learning and improving.

The Châtel section of the Portes du Soleil is less daunting in size but still offers enough variety to keep all but the most demanding skier happy for the week, with 49 slopes: 5 black, 16 red, 14 blue and 14 green – a total length of 53 miles! Boarders will love the off-piste areas, including the section known as 'Donkey's' – the pefect powder playgound.

The area comprises two main sections: Barbossine / Super-Châtel (a short walk from chalet Avalanche) and Linga / Pré-la-Joux (directly accessible from chalet Braconnier), and lies between 1100m and 2200m (3600ft and 7200ft). Super-Châtel features a snow park and an area specially laid out for beginners.

The inclusive Châtel ski pass is also valid for the Swiss resort of Torgon, the Corbeau section of the Swiss resort, Morgins and the Braitaz section of La Chapelle d’Abondance. In all, 80 miles of superb, thrilling ski slopes!
